Using the Location Report to Optimize Ad Targeting

The Location Report, found under the "Location" tab in your Google Ads analysis section, provides powerful geographical insights into your ad traffic. It allows you to see exactly where both your legitimate and fraudulent clicks are originating from.

By understanding this data, you can refine your campaign's geo-targeting to reduce wasted ad spend and improve your overall results.

What the Report Shows

The report is composed of two main parts:

The Interactive Map At the top of the page, you'll see an interactive world map. Countries are color-coded based on the volume of fraudulent clicks, with darker shades typically indicating a higher concentration of fraud. You can hover over any country to see a quick summary of its traffic and fraud data.

The Detailed Data Table Below the map, a table breaks down the data by Country and Region. You can sort this table by any column to analyze the information. Key metrics include:

Ad Clicks: The total number of clicks received from that location.

Fake Clicks: The number of clicks from that location that ClickSambo identified as fraudulent.

Fraud Rate (%): A critical metric showing the percentage of total clicks from that location that were fraudulent (Fake Clicks ÷ Ad Clicks). Sorting by this column is the fastest way to identify problematic regions.

How to Take Action on Location Insights

The primary use of this report is to identify and exclude locations that are sending high volumes of fraudulent traffic and are outside of your target market.

Example Scenario: Imagine you are advertising only within the United States, but your Location Report shows a high fraud rate from countries like Vietnam, India, or Brazil.

Here’s how to act on that data:

Identify Problematic Locations: In your ClickSambo Location Report, sort the table by "Fraud Rate" to bring the highest-fraud countries to the top. Make a list of these non-target countries.

Go to Google Ads: Log in to your Google Ads account and navigate to the campaign you want to edit.

Find Location Settings: Go to that campaign's Settings and find the Locations section.

Add Exclusions: Under the "Excluded" tab, add the high-fraud countries you identified from your ClickSambo report.

By saving these changes, you will immediately prevent your ads from being shown in those locations, stopping that source of wasted spend. Regularly reviewing your Location Report and updating your campaign exclusions is a powerful way to improve the efficiency of your ad budget.
