Click Fraud Thresholds

How to Set and Customize Click Fraud Thresholds

Click Fraud Thresholds are a powerful feature of our Protection Plan that allows you to define the exact rules for automatically blocking suspicious click activity based on frequency.

These rules work on a simple principle: if a single IP address clicks on your ads too many times within a set period, it will be automatically added to your Google Ads IP exclusion list. While ClickSambo provides a set of pre-configured rules based on industry best practices, you have full control to customize them.

Understanding the Rule Structure

Block an IP address if it generates more than [Number of Clicks] within a [Timeframe].

For example: Rule: Block after 5 Clicks within 1 Hour

Meaning: If the same IP address clicks on any of your ads 5 times within a 60-minute window, it will be flagged as fraudulent and automatically blocked.

How to Manage Your Threshold Rules

You can find these settings by navigating to Account Settings > Click Fraud Thresholds. On this page, you can perform the following actions:

View Your Rules: The page will display a list of all your currently active threshold rules.

Add a New Rule:

Click the "+ Add Rule" button.

A new line will appear where you can input the Number of Clicks and select the Timeframe (e.g., Hour, Day, Week) from the dropdown menus.

Delete a Rule:

To remove a rule, simply click the trash can icon (🗑️) next to it.

Save Your Changes:

After adding or deleting rules, you must click the "Save Changes" button to apply your updates.

Best Practices and Warnings

Start with Your Recommended Settings Your initial protection rules are intelligently pre-set based on the industry you selected during registration, combined with performance data from thousands of similar campaigns. This provides a powerful, tailored baseline that you can further refine to meet your specific needs.

Calibrate Your Thresholds Thoughtfully When making adjustments, avoid setting overly strict rules (e.g., flagging 2 clicks in 1 day). Such aggressive thresholds can block legitimate customers. We recommend observing your traffic patterns before significantly tightening your recommended settings.

Implement a Layered Defense Strategy A robust approach combines different rule types for comprehensive protection:

Short-Term, High-Intensity Rule: Catches immediate bot attacks. (e.g., 5 clicks in 1 hour)

Long-Term, Low-Intensity Rule: Identifies suspicious Browse patterns over time. (e.g., 15 clicks in 7 days)

Fine-Tune for Your Customer Behavior As you gather data, fine-tune your rules to match the typical engagement of your genuine customers. For example, an e-commerce shopper might naturally click ads more than a user seeking a one-time service. Adjusting for this ensures maximum protection with minimal disruption to real users.
