How to Use UTM Parameters with ClickSambo

Golden Rule: Never replace your existing template that contains your UTMs. To ensure both your analytics and our fraud detection work perfectly, you must merge the two templates by "wrapping" your current template inside the ClickSambo template.

This guide will show you how to do it safely in two simple steps.

Step 1: Identify Your Two Components

You will be combining two pieces: your current template and the ClickSambo template.

Your Current Template (with UTMs) This is the template already in your Google Ads account.

Example:

{lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignid}

The ClickSambo Template This is the template from your ClickSambo dashboard. Notice it ends with a placeholder: &target_url=

Example:

https://track.clicksambo.com/track?key=12345&cs_ip={ip}&target_url=

Step 2: Combine the Templates

The process is simple: just append your entire current template [A] to the end of the ClickSambo template [B].

The Simple Formula: Final Merged Template = [ClickSambo Template] + [Your Current Template]

The Result:

https://track.clicksambo.com/track?key=12345&cs_ip={ip}&target_url={lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignid}

This final, combined template is what you will paste into the "Tracking template" field in Google Ads.

How It Works

This structure tells Google to first send the click information to ClickSambo for fraud analysis. ClickSambo then instantly forwards the user to your final landing page ({lpurl}) with all of your original UTM parameters perfectly preserved and attached.

Important Note

When in doubt, don't save! Incorrectly formatted tracking templates can break your ads. If you are unsure, please copy both of your templates and contact our support team. We are happy to merge them for you to ensure everything is set up perfectly.
